Wireless Basics 4: Concerns
There is a concern from some about possible damage from
the radio signal to children. As with all these things, we
can't say there is absolutely no danger to anyone ever.
What we can say is:
- The signal at the antenna is 100mW, which is one
tenth of that of a mobile phone at its aerial.
- You are unlikely to put your head against the
antenna, bringing the Inverse Square Law into play to
reduce the signal strength above.
- The maximum transmission range in a vacuum is 300m.
It isn't a strong signal.
- Terry Wogan works in an environment with a much
stronger radio signal, and has done for a few years. He
seems okay, although this is not a qualitative test.
