Wireless Basics 1: The bits you need

• Computers - usually laptops, but not always
• A network - without cables, there's nothing to link the wireless network together. Think about your cordless phone at home; if the base station isn't plugged into a phone socket, you can't make calls.
• Wireless Access Point - creates the wireless network
• Wireless Network Adapters - Older laptops & desktop PCs only, not needed for modern portables.
• Wireless Antennæ - To either extend the range or focus the coverage.
