Wireless AntennæAs standard, Wireless Access Points are supplied with one or two omnidirectional indoor antennæ. These are fine for normal use, but the range can be extended, and performance improved, by using a different antenna. The omnidirectional unit, as its name suggests, transmits at the same strength in all directions. If you need to link two buildings, this is very inefficient. It helps to think of the Access Point as a lightbulb, and the antenna as a reflector. A small bulb can be used in a torch to give a much stronger light than just on its own. The strength of the bulb, and the power it uses, don't change. The area in front of you is strongly lit, and no light is wasted behind your back. There is quite a range of antennæ. Featured below are those we've found most useful.
