TME: delivering ICT to education

From our base just off J26 of the M5, TME are within easy reach of all our customers. This is our twelfth year of service to schools across the South West. Over the past decade, we have made sure that the advice we have given is honest, and the products supplied appropriate. Our goal remains unchanged; to deliver integrated, low maintenance ICT solutions, which meet the needs of schools.

There have been a lot of changes since 1994. Back then, money for IT was very tight. LEAs dictated whether schools bought Acorn or other systems, and the Internet was a strange thing a few computer geeks were keen on. At the best, each class might have one computer, though a few brave souls had suites of machines on a network. Occasionally, you might see a presentation given using a digital projector.

Looking at where we are now, it's easy to see the massive changes. Acorn are no longer around (although there's life in the old dog yet), and there appears to be very wide choice of PC systems. Government funding, through various initiatives, has enabled schools to invest massively in ICT (as it has become). On the downside of this, some of the systems purchased have been of questionable quality. The growth of the kit built PC has led to the rapid emergence and equally rapid disappearance of a plethora of small companies, leaving schools with broken and unmanageable systems.

So where are TME in all this? We've stuck to a policy of supplying computers from a major company. Fujitsu Siemens are the largest European manufacturer, and this partnership gives us excellent products and robust technical backup.

Partnerships with software publishers are also vital, and we maintain an active relationship with companies like Logotron, Topologika, Softease and Sherston to make sure we can support curricular installations. Having been installing networks since our inception, we've built a strong relationship with D-Link, one of the world's leading manufacturers. With their data switches and high-quality Krone components, we are very confident that our systems are as fast and resilient as possible.

The greatest recent growth has been in digital projectors and interactive whiteboards. Installation of interactive systems has been part of our business for several years. We supply reliable and manageable solutions. We also know that, as ever, others will be cheaper. Our policy is based on appropriateness rather than cheapness, on making sure we're still here in the future rather than selling loads of stuff today. So if we do an installation, it will be done right, and will last.
